Edinburgh Zoo

We went to the Edinburgh Zoo today and I saw a lot of adorable animals and even some endangered animals ; apart from enjoying the happiness of visiting these lovely animals(and the brutal breeze), they are actually admonishing us - we the human have to stop destroying the earth, over-hunting and ruining their habitats.
This is Sumatran Tiger and it is actually critically endangered. Their habitat is rain forest, however human is keep chopping down the woods and trees and over hunting them; Sumatran Tiger becomes one of the endangered animal. We should treasure the resources on the Earth and not wasting any useful things, trying our best to achieve the 3R's : 'Reduce', 'Reuse' and 'Recycle'.
This is Meerkats and they are classed as 'Least Concern' by IUCN because over-hunting and even gassed in their burrows particularly in areas where they pose a threat the humans. They are pale brown on the underside and on their face, with silvery-brown on the upper parts and eight darker bands on their back and dark eye rings with a dark tip to their slender tail.
There is a range of threats that penguins are facing now, large scale of commercial fishing let penguins lose their diets. Ocean pollution stick the feathers of penguins and they have difficulties to swim and survive. Gentoo penguins are near threatened animals.
Yang Guang is a male giant panda which is eating his favorite bamboo. Panda lives in the mountain forests of the central China. They are classed as vulnerable now because loss habitat. Same as the Sumatran Tiger, humans are over chopping trees and the mountains and forests are disappearing. There are 2,281 giant pandas on the world now.
As the well development of human, animals are keep dying and decreasing, we should attach the importance to animal protection. Certainly, treasure the things we got and never waste are prescribing the right medicine for an illness of the Earth and the animals.

Lilly is not part of Edinburgh Zoo or RZSS, she is part of our host family and she welcomed me as we return with her flexibility

Scottish school visits

It was the first time I went into an IB classroom. The class size was small and teachers could provide students with  more individualised feedback. The learning dynamics are very strong in the Edinburgh classrooms as well. I see something similar in both Hong Kong and Edinburgh---the passion of teaching and learning. Students were highly engaged and created their own notes!

I was amazed and surprised by the interactive whiteboard at James Gillespie’s High School. I want to have one in my homeroom!!! I was so into the Gaelic (the indigenous language in Scotland) lesson there! It is the only high school in Edinburgh offering this language subject! It is a cultural treasure. Chiefly Scottish!

Moreover, I saw something exciting when I observed Mathematics lesson in George Watson’s College. It is the micro-computer! We had a very good time there and met the Principal of the College.

Last night, I joined some boys to go to the bowling place! We had very good chats and enjoyed our meal at Nando's! After that, I visited one of the host families. The host mum was a Hong Konger and she was a teacher in Hong Kong!

Last but not least, I grasped every chance to learn some Scottish English. I hope you don’t treat me as a “blether” :p

A happy day

This morning, we took taxi to the George Watsons College, with the generosity of the Royal High School. I have never expected I could have a luxury journey like this. We walked for around 45 minutes and arrived at the National Museum of Scotland. The museum is spectacular and displays a lot of rare exhibits. We saw Dolly the sheep there!!!

Then, we went to the Elephant House Cafe, where J.K. Rowling started writing her masterpiece, Harry Potter. We had some carrot cakes there!

We also walked around the University of Edinburgh. I did not notice that it is that old! We had lunch there and it is yummy.

We would love to go into different faculty buildings but it all requires a student card :( We also went to National Gallery as well!

Special thanks to Mr. To for accompanying us for waiting for the taxi again!. We all thought the view of Edinburgh is beautiful and the trip of today is great and exciting

Today, I go to school visit. I'm very surprised that the class size is very small. Also, the students can choose the subjects by themselves. For junior form students, the don't have core subjects. They can choose the subjects that they like. It is different than in Hong Kong.

We are going to the host school today,I go to Boroughmuir High School and have lessons
with my buddy. The most of all,I have aphysics lesson,it is interesting. Since I study physics too,it show me what is the difference between Hong Kong and Scotland. In Hong Kong, students are under pressure, since there are too many homework, but there are relaxed in Scotland. However, School in Hong Kong is want us be smart people. There are two side of happen,we are not just looking at the good side or bad side ,we should look at both side and think about it.This is the skill that school give me.

It's almost time to go to....... Edinburgh!!

Hello, everyone! This is Mr. Bryan To, the accompany teacher (from Law Ting Pong Secondary School) of the SCEN Youth Summit and Scotland Study Trip. I am more than happy to lead a group of 15 students with Ms. Yip (another accompanying teacher from TWGHs Kwok Yat Wai College).

The learning objectives of the SCEN Youth Summit and Scotland Study Trip are that:
1.     Students in Hong Kong share their experience of learning languages (including English and Putonghua) and school life in the Youth Summit.

2.     They can practice their languages by using English and Putonghua as two major media to communicate with the people in Edinburgh.

3.     They can experience and know more about the lifestyle and culture in Edinburgh when they live with the host families.

Moreover, I would like to share with you our list of participants of the trip!
